Simple Steps in Installing An Electric Boat Anchor Winch

The installation of an efficient electric anchor winch on your boat will greatly help you to effectively haul your boat’s anchor in and out of water with ease. Manually hauling the anchor can be a very tedious, not to mention the immense effort that you need to utilize. Therefore, if you want to prevent those annoying back pains and body fatigue, then you should seriously consider the use of an electric winch. This invaluable anchoring tool will be more than willing to do the heavy work for you. With its presence, you can now relax knowing that your boat’s anchor is in safe hands.

To begin the installation process, you must first prepare a masking tape, drill, screw driver, fuse, and marine adhesive sealant.

When done, you may now start setting the mounting plate that came with the winch unto the deck. With the use of a grease pencil, mark the screw holes on the mounting plate. Next, drill holes on the marks you have created.

Use the masking tape to lay the area where the winch will be installed on. Mark out its edges so you’d know where you need to set the base of the winch. Apply the marine adhesive sealant to create a water-tight seal on the bottom of the winch’s base as well as on the area of the deck where the base of the winch is about to be positioned.

Place the anchor winch in place, and then begin inserting the screws on the designated screw holes. Do not squeeze the screws too tightly so that the adhesive sealant you applied earlier will properly stick to the area that you have marked out with the masking tape. Leave the sealant for at least 24 hours to allow it to completely cure and dry. After you have ascertained that the sealant is fully cured, you may now remove the masking tape, and then securely tighten the screws to properly fasten them onto the deck.

Shut off the main electrical connection of your boat before you connect the power lead of the anchor electric winch to the boat’s power buss. The winch’s power lead will typically have a fuse in it. Inspect the fuse by twisting the fuse carrier. Make certain that it is in good working condition before putting it back to place. Finally, attach the ground wire of the winch to the common ground of the boat. And voila, you have now successfully installed a winch anchor unto your boat.
